Education in Recovery from Conflict

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), a recognised leader in the provision of education in humanitarian emergencies, has recently published on its website an independent evaluation that ImpactReady prepared on the Recovery of Acholi Youth Programme. Acholi is a district in Northern Uganda that was heavily affected by the civil war fought between the Government of Uganda and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and which ended in 2006.

The report (available in PDF) reviews the results and lessons from the provision of skills training for young people, accelerated primary education for conflict-affected children, and the reconstruction of school buildings. The conclusions and recommendations made will be used by NRC to support their exit from Uganda, and to design future education programmes in post-conflict contexts.
